Neighborhood Security

We, whom live, year round or seasonally, at Indian Lake Estates are privileged to live in such an idyllic place. However, we are not totally isolated from the real world. Vandalism and burglaries do occur. During warm weather we had several incidents where our canoes and kayaks have been used and abandoned by unauthorized individuals.

It is important to note that there is a year round camp for “troubled youth” nearby on Highway 281 north of Slick  Fisher Road. http://trailscarolina.com/

Prudence dictates that reasonable security measures should be taken.  I suggest that residents do not leave their homes or vehicles unlocked.  Those of us who reside in cities are accustomed to such measures; regretfully the real world intrudes even in more secluded areas

Please note that the Transylvania Sheriff’s Dept will perform Vacation Checks for residents on vacation (not to exceed one month). I have attached an application for your convenience.  If you choose to use this service, the application should be mailed to the Transylvania Sheriff’s Office, ATTN: Jim Rubion with the TCSO Volunteers, 153 Public Safety Way, Brevard, NC  28712.

Good Neighbors

Please be considerate of your neighbors. Drive within our posted speed limits as our blind curves and narrow roads warrant. Residents are discouraged from allowing personal pets roaming beyond their property lines (See Covenant 11 of our Restated Protective Covenants). Let’s keep our neighborhood enjoyable for everyone.

Welcome to the Community

Ron Acierno’s home on Indian Lake Road is nearing completion. We look forward to meeting Ron and welcome him to the community.

Home Improvements

We take pride in our homes and community. Home improvements and maintenance reflect our values. Please notify the Architectural Control Committee Chairperson, Aleta Tisdale, of any plans to make improvements and changes (such as painting or replacing your roof) with regard to your house, deck, yard or lot. You may not be required to file plans under the Regulations, but we will be pleased to advise you if it is required, and good communication is certainly appreciated by your neighbors.

Contact Information

Please make sure your contact information on the ILE website is up to date, including email and phone numbers. Take a look at the current information and please confirm it is current with Barbara at ilcsec@comporium.net. For those of you who do not have email, please confirm your mailing address and call Barbara at (904 699 7015)  if it needs correcting.

Roads

Repaving has been contracted for the following areas:

  • Upper Hiwassee Road (above Five Points)
  • Rainbow’s End
  • Indian Lake Road below Mohawk Lane for 250ft.

We expect that the paving should be completed before the end of November.

Dam Repairs

We have submitted a new plan for repairing the Dam with NCDENR and are waiting for approval before we can begin the work. However, repairing the road from Tellico Lane to the dam has been contracted to Whitmire Grading and work on it should begin on or about November 3. The repairs to the road should be completed in approximately one week.

Water System

Many residents lost their water during the storm several weeks ago when a water main broke. Thanks to the supreme efforts of Dick Hennig, Chairman of the Water Committee, repairs were made the same day and water was restored to the community.

With many residents about to depart for the season, please be mindful of the need to shut off your water from the street to your home to prevent breaks in the water lines when freezing weather arrives. Please contact Dick if you have any questions.

Holiday Party

Before you know it, the holidays will be here! Come celebrate with your neighbors at the annual Christmas party hosted this year by the McClungs at 352 Cherokee Circle on Saturday, December 6. John McClung is a new Board Member. I look forward to seeing everyone!

Personal Note
