President’s Letter

The Annual Meeting will be September 14th in the upstairs conference room at the fire station. Important information will be presented. Election results of new Board of Directors will be announced. All of the committees will report on their accomplishments from the prior year and present their plans for the coming year. The 2014 Budget will be presented.

Several topics concerning the dams need to be communicated to you. First, the Indian Lake Dam is NOT a recreation area. It is restricted to persons doing work. The spillway is an extremely dangerous area. Anyone entering the spillway is risking serious injury or even possible death. Please obey the signs and stay off of the dam.

John Pappas is in negotiations with a contractor to do the dam repairs. NCDENR is working with us and has approved the plans for the repairs. They are satisfied with the progress on the project. Hopefully at the Annual Meeting, John will be able to announce that contracts are signed and work is schedules.

In the spring, several community members made a presentation to the Board requested that roadside maintenance be minimized to allow the wildflowers to grow. At first the only maintenance performed was to trim branches that were interfering with traffic. After several months of no maintenance it became obvious that some maintenance had to be performed. Our contractor was given instructions to do some minimal trimming in June.
After the trimming, I received request from a vast majority of residents to return to conventional trimming as done in prior years. The compromise that has been instituted for the remainder of this year is that normal trimming will be done from the roads’ edge to the backside of the ditches. Banks will not be cut unless the growth causes problems.

We are losing two of the pillars of the community. Don and Louise Harrison are scheduled to close on the sell of their home in early September. The two of them have been so involved in the activities of the community. They have dedicated countless time on projects such as the waterfront park, maintaining the entrance, organizing community sales and a very successful house tour just to mention a few. That is just a small sample of their contribution to the neighborhood. Their biggest contribution has been greeting new residents to our community. Don and Louise you will be missed but we are excited for you as you enter this new phase of your life.

See you at the Annual Meeting,

Everett Bedenbaugh
President, Indian Lake Club, Inc.
