We are about half way through winter and spring will be here before you know it.  A lot has been accomplished for the benefit of the community and we look forward to a few additional jobs being finished.   I want to give you updates as to what is going on:

Generators:  I am happy to announce that we now have working generators at both pumphouses.  This was a project that was talked about for many years and has finally come to fruition.   Ron Harden invested his time, gas money, knowledge and used his contacts throughout Lake Toxaway and saw this project through from beginning to end.  The generators will kick on a few moments after we lose electricity and provide each of us with running water.  We have contracted with Haywood Electric to take care of the maintenance such as oil changes and battery replacement.  Please take a moment to Thank Ron Harden for this wonderful accomplishment for our community.  Kudos Ron!!

Dock:  After much inspection it was determined the dock at the park needed some serious attention.  Much of the wood structure was rotted and needed to be replaced.  The top of the deck is being replaced using Trex – a composite plastic that comes with a 25-year warranty.   Most of the substructure has also been removed and will be replaced with pressure treated lumber.   The dock will be the same size.  The Trex will be a medium/dark brown and it will eliminate the need for painting and will wear better in our climate and at the lake.  The cost to repair the dock using Trex is a little over $13,000.  Until the dock is completed, the entire area around the dock is closed.  The timing of the repair was done in conjunction with the draining of the lake.  We expect the dock to be rebuilt by the end of March to mid-April.

Dam update:  After many years of preparation, Boyd McNeely and crew have started working on the dam.  Rock and dirt have been hauled in and dispersed.  Little tractors are running up and down the steep side of the dam.  The repairs will be done in 3 phases and all should be completed sometime in April.   Throughout this repair, driving in the neighborhood could be cautious as large trucks carrying necessary supplies and equipment to the dam will be in and out of the neighborhood.  Please consider reducing speeds so all stay safe.  Our roads are narrow to begin with.  This has been a project that has been in the works for more than 13 years.  John Pappas has headed this project from the beginning and deserves our gratitude for his dedication to seeing this repair completed.  It’s been a long time coming.  Thank you, John Pappas.

Trees:  After two hurricanes and some pretty fierce winds many trees on members properties are severely damaged or outright dead.  In order to keep expenses down for the entire community it is imperative that members have these trees removed.  It is much less expensive if the wood can be left for burning at your home or firepit.   If it is not removed and falls across the roads you may be charged back for the removal.  If it damages a neighbor’s property, you are responsible.  Please do a thorough examination of trees on your property and have them removed.  We have two insured tree companies that can give you a quote and take care of the removal.  They will also examine your property for additional problem trees.  We will have these companies posted on the website.  Of course you are welcome to use any company you choose.  Use caution if you take them down yourself.  If you see dead trees on community property, please contact Jeannette Lee at 941-350-7390.

HOA Assessments:  2025 HOA assessment letters were mailed to all member residents in January.  If anyone has not received their assessment invoices in the mail, please contact Bruce Vanderheide, [email protected] or 803-606-6001.  Special assessments were due Feb 1 or combined with your regular assessment due March 1.  Payments should be mailed to Indian Lake Club, P O Box 371, Lake Toxaway NC 28747.

We look forward to seeing you this spring/summer.
