Say it ain’t so…

Say it ain’t so that it’s the middle of August already and the year and summer are passing so fast.  We are seeing our hydrangeas fade, the lilies die off and so much rain in August.  Here are a few updates and important reminders for you.

Dam work:  the dam work is finished for now.  Boyd McNeely was able to apply a seal to the joints on the spillway.  We need to wait until after winter to see if we can avoid a costly expense to finish the repairs to the dam.  There will be more of an update at our annual meeting.

Fish restocking:  we are working with a new supplier at a much cheaper cost to replenish the fish in the lake.  With the excessive heat we are experiencing, the supplier has indicated it is too hot to transport the fish over 300 miles to us.  When it cools down to a reasonable temperature, we can schedule a delivery.  It will be better for the health of the fish.

Hole by the Park:  Environmental Inc., the company that tends our water system is ordering new valves and will soon finish the job and fill in the hole.

Roads:  Paving is expected to be done this month on Indian Lake Road from Hennig to Endicott and on Hiawassee from Santaloci to Carter.  This may require residents traveling up Hiawassee to use Cherokee Circle while the Hiawassee is being paved.  We appreciate your cooperation and patience.  It should not take more than a day.

Canoes and Kayaks:  There are two open canoe slots and one kayak slot available for rent.  The rent is $25 per year.  If there are more renters than slots available, we move to a lottery system for rentals.    Please contact Colin Castner at colincastner@hotmail.com if you want to rent a spot.

 Reminders:

Community gatherings are held bimonthly but adjusted for holidays.  The next Wednesday night gathering is September 10th.  Bring your own utensils/plates/drink and a dish to share.

Annual Labor Day party will be held at the park on August 31 at 1:00.  Main course and tableware will be provided by the Park/parties/beautification committee.  Come one, come all.

Annual Members Meeting:  Scheduled for September 6, at 10:00.  Natural disaster rescheduled date is September 13 at 10:00.  All members are encouraged to attend to receive updates on the community. Ballots have been sent out by email and must be returned to the secretary, Barbara Pence by September 3rd in order to be counted.   Her email is indianlakeestatessecretary@gmail.com.  You can also email her if you did not receive the email sent to members on August 15th.  The ballot for the voting for Board Members is included in that email.  There are 4 candidates and 3 slots open.

Enjoy the rest of the summer and feel free to ask any questions to a Board Member.  Also give them thanks for serving the community.

President, ILC
