President’s Newsletter February 2015
We have had a seasonal winter thus far, without much snowfall and bitter cold that we endured last year. Here’s hoping that the rest of the season is enjoyable, too.
The season has been uneventful, so this letter will be short.
Roads
Our road construction was delayed due to cold weather in November, but once spring arrives, the planned road work will commence. Re-grading and repairs to the road to the Dam have been completed.
Dam and Lake Update
Winter Indian Lake Alert – We plan to lower Indian Lake 2-3 feet the first week of February, to take advantage of the cold weather to naturally kill of some of the grass growing in the lake. This will expose the grass in the shallow areas of the lake to freezing temperatures and naturally reduce it. This will also give us some practice managing the lake level when we tackle the spillway repairs described next.
We have completed the repair of the construction road to the lower dam in anticipation of the required spillway repairs. We are waiting for approval from the North Carolina Department of Natural Resources to begin the repairs to the Indian Lake Dam. When we commence repairs, we will lower the level of the lake shortly to facilitate the repairs. Lowering the lake level will also expose some weeds and grass in shallow areas. Residents and volunteers will have the opportunity to pull up the remaining grass that we don’t get with the freeze-out project in February. Residents will be informed of the date for lowering the lake once we have confirmation. This will likely be late Spring/Summer 2015.
Water System
Please remember to shut off your water if you leave your residence for vacation during the winter months. This will help prevent floods to your home and damage to the pipes during freezing weather.
Website
We are redoing are website, www.indianlakeclubinc.com to improve functionality and update the design. This will better serve our residents and prospective residents. We expect the new website to be ready soon.
Please enjoy our beautiful community. I look forward to the renewal of the spring and to seeing more activity soon. Please contact me if you have any questions or issues to address.
